One detail catches people: the yard gate closes 30 minutes before the sales counter, which the FAQ says gives staff time to clear the rows and get everyone checked out. Roll in at 5:45 PM for a quick alternator and you’re buying it tomorrow. Severe weather can shorten hours too.

This is the part of Pull-A-Part that people either love or find strange. The upside: you know the price before you touch a wrench, and late-model or luxury parts can be a steal. The downside: a part off a beat-up 20-year-old economy car costs the same as the identical part off a newer vehicle, so the model rewards anyone who hunts the newest donor cars in the rows.
Steve Levetan, senior vice president at Pull-A-Part, described the economics to The Spokesman-Review this way: “We have customers that come every week who pull parts and then resell them. One couple in Atlanta, they pull parts together every weekend, and they tell us they’ve put three kids through college by selling parts on eBay” (The Spokesman-Review, 2008). That interview is old, but the model hasn’t changed: low overhead, flat prices, and a yard full of people who know how to work it.
What the actual prices are
Here’s the limit of this guide. Pull-A-Part publishes its price list online under Parts Pricing and posts it in the store, but the list is location-specific and it changes. What we can tell you is how the totals stack up. At the register you pay the flat part price plus sales tax, plus a core charge if the part carries one (refunded in cash when you bring the old part back within 30 days with your receipt, or waived if you bring the old part with you), plus the environmental fee, which Pull-A-Part’s FAQ puts at 8%. Then the payment method matters: cash gets a 2.75% discount, cards pay a 2.75% fee. On a $200 engine that is an $11 swing.
